Kym's Kids began in 1994 to help abused, neglected, and low-moderate income kids and families. We offer year round mentoring, tutoring, food pantry, low-income housing, field trips to cultural events, books, school supplies/uniforms, clothing, furniture, and vehicle donations and more! We pick up donations and also take donations of gently used items and perishables as well as perishable and non- perishable food.
We have served lots of families since we started in 1994 and we offer a free summer camp, Thanksgiving food baskets, Christmas food baskets and toys. We empower kids to be more! Kymla and the Board of Directors are volunteers and always have been! We don't receive any federal or state funding! We just count on good people like you! MEET KYMLA!
Hello! I'm so glad you found me! I was born and raised in Prairie View, Texas. I was adopted as an infant and raised by my mother, a school teacher and my father, a chemistry professor.
I have a B.A. in Social Sciences and a certification in Early Childhood Education. As well as a licensed insurance agent, notary, income tax preparer for over 30years and ordained minister for over 30 years. I am the Pastor of "God's Light Ministries" that's been featured on tv. and a satellite ministry in Liberia
Because I grew up in a loving home with parents that took me in, I developed a love for children and wanted to adopt. I opened up a daycare in my home and began to foster children . This was the beginning of Kym's Kids. After fostering over 25 children, I adopted 6 children. Four of my six are a sibling group. I am a mother of 8 children ( 2 biological). Kym's Kids began to flourish through the help of my amazing volunteers and with the help of community outreach.
In 1998, I stopped on the highway to help a disabled gentleman. While trying to come to his aid I was struck by a Winnebago. That accident left me with 2 broken legs, a broken hip, a broken jaw and I was pronounced dead at the scene. Today, I am fully recovered! I have overcome incredible odds and so can hurting children!
Helping hurting kids and families is my passion! We are all volunteers and we do this because we have a love and a heart for children!
I'm grateful that I am able to serve kids throughout the inner city and beyond. My heart is truly blessed!

With the support of our volunteers and community outreach we are able to offer FREE summer camp, swimming lessons, piano lessons, food, clothing, school supplies, backpacks, and more!
We were blessed this summer to help families with eviction notices and help pay utilities!

Kymla was nominated for a National Award, "Stand For A Better World" and was one of ten finalists. She has been featured and honored on several local tv stations; Ch.8,11,58, and 49. She was recognized on local radio stations; Tom Joyner morning show "Shout Out" segment and KRLD. She was also featured in local newspapers: Dallas Weekly, Dallas Morning News, and Dallas Examiner. Kym has been honored by Thelma Wells Women's Ministries and in the National Register's "Who's Who" twice. She was honored by the Governor of Texas in 1996 (George Bush) for adopting 6 children as a single parent and for her work in the community. She received the Joyce M Jones award in May of 2018 for her work in the community! In August 2021, Kym's Kids was recognized by Comerica Bank in "South Dallas Spotlight". In 2021-2022 Kym's Kids was awarded a total of $22,000.00 to help hurting kids and families!
